Meet Flo McDonough of Organize Senior Moves
Organize Senior Moves is a member of the National Association of Senior Move Managers. Their goal is to reduce the stress that is often associated with moving. OSM works closely with their clients to make this difficult transition run as smoothly as possible.
Flo McDonough has been working alongside owner Michelle Kavanaugh for 5 years. During that time she has worn a few hats, including team member and office manager. Flo is currently the franchise operations manager, and hoping to bring OSM’s proven success nationwide.
- Explain to me what a “senior move manager” does.
A senior move manager helps seniors who are preparing to transition from one home to another. We help our clients sort through their things, helping them to decide what will go into the new home. Items that are not going with them are disbursed according to the client’s wishes.
- What type of client could use your services?
One of the most common things that we hear from our clients is that they are “overwhelmed” with the work that lies ahead of the move. The goal of a senior move manager is to ease the stress that often accompanies the moving process.
- What other types of professionals do you coordinate with, if any? How does your role mesh with theirs?
Senior move managers work closely with a variety of professionals, including realtors, movers, charities and antique dealers. With realtors, we can help them to get the house listed sooner by getting it cleaned out sooner. Senior move managers do not load or unload the moving trucks — outside movers are hired. Services such as antique dealers, and charities benefit from the items that the client is not taking with them.
- What inspired you to go into this line of work?
The owner of the company had previously owned a senior companion care service. Many of her clients would ask her to help get them organized or help them to get ready to move. From there, the concept of becoming a senior move manager was born.
- Tell me a success story about how you were able to help one of your clients.
I like to think that all of our clients’ moves are success stories! Hah! One of the best parts of the job takes place at the end of the moving day — when the client enters the new home for the “big reveal”. Seeing their satisfaction with a job well done is a tremendous feeling.
